Weekly Market Helper
Kiwassa Food programs are looking for individuals who are willing to help us run our fresh and affordable produce market each week in Pandora Park. The Food Programs have been helping vulnerable populations, including seniors and immunocompromised, during the pandemic, and need help in continuing this great work! It is also important to note that volunteers in these positions will not be in direct physical contact with vulnerable populations.
Kiwassa is also taking careful COVID-19 precautions to ensure safety for all our volunteers, including 2-metre physical distancing, no sharing of objects, mandatory mask requirement, and available sanitizers.
Ideally, we are looking for someone who has:
- Prior experience working in customer service or market settings
- Ability to divide and count produce
- Basic math and addition skills for working cash register
- Friendly disposition and ability to work well with others
- Quick learner
- Time management
Perks of this position:
- Contribute a helpful service to the broader community
- Learn how to operate a produce market
- Work independently as part of a bigger team
- Meet interesting people
- Discount & free produce

We are always looking for fun, enthusiastic, responsible and community-minded people to join our volunteer family. You don’t have to have a specific skill or be an expert to start volunteering with us, as long as you are willing to learn, share, contribute and make a difference in the community.
We look for support in many areas of our programming. Our volunteers work with children, youth, seniors and neighbours of all ages. Our volunteers prepare meals in the kitchen, provide tutoring support, support newcomers with interpretation, chat with neighbours at our community events, and help keep things organized behind the scenes. We have volunteers supporting in diverse community programs like crafts, dance, foodbank, summer camp, daycare and English as a Second Language classes.
We offer ongoing training for our volunteers, and an opportunity to develop your leadership, facilitation and community engagement skills. Volunteer work is a great way to gain new skills and give back to your community!
