Visiting Isolated Senior in their Home

Position description: 

This volunteer position is vital in alleviating the lonliness and isolation many seniors experience her in Vancouver.  This position is available with the Kerrisdale, Oakridge, Marpole, Dunbar and Southlands Better at Home program, a program designed and funded by the United Way of the Lower Mainland to help seniors age safely in their homes. This volunteer position is supervised by the program coodinator. You will be matched with a senior, introduced to the senior and then meet with the senior at their home on a weekly basis to visit, talk, read, go for a walk or have tea/coffee together. 

Deliverables/Duties: 

Attend orientation with coordinator and introduction to senior with coordinator

Visit senior in their home one hour each week

Report any changes in condition of sehior or their environment

Attend various training sessions (2 per year)

Qualifications: 

Friendly

Resepectul of boundaries

Experience or interest in working with seniors

Available to visit long-term (minimum 3 month commitment)  one hour every week
