VGH Wayfinding
Help visitors by providing information, directions, and/or escorts within VGH.
Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is the second largest hospital in Canada and offers specialized health care services to residents in Vancouver and across the province. It can be challenging for visitors to find their way around the campus.
Our goal is to provide an enhanced patient and visitor experience while at the hospital, helping to create an atmosphere that is calm, caring, and compassionate, yet efficient and emphasizes 'people first'.
This role is wonderful experience for healthcare students who are looking for an opportunity to learn about the large and complex VGH campus.
This role is a wonderful experience for mature adults who are looking for an opportunity to share their time, their life experience, and compassion with patients, their families, and visitors in the community.
- Stand to the side of the Information Desk facing the Main Entrance.
- Approach people who appear to need assistance, including people who are consulting maps or signage.
- Offer an escort to destination rather than verbal directions, whenever possible.
- Must be 19+ years of age.
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to approach the general public.
- Must have strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Must be reliable, responsible, and punctual.
- Must be patient, respectful, understanding, and compassionate.
- Competency in English. Second language is an asset.
Time Commitment
- Shifts vary between Monday to Friday, 7:30 am and 7:00 pm.
- Regular weekly 3 hour shift.
- Minimum commitment of 4 months.

Volunteer Training and Support
- Training and orientation provided by VCH Volunteer Resource Department
- Two online training modules
- Two training shifts with experienced Wayfinding volunteers
- Ongoing supervision and support provided by Coordinator, Volunteer Resources
