Russian speaking visitors
The Louis Brier Home and Hospital is a long term care facility housing 230 residents. Some of the residents do not speak English and are isolated due to the language barrier. We are seeking friendly people to visit Russian speaking residents, and support them in participating in the recreational activities offered, and perhaps create a program based on their requests.
The volunteer will visit once or twice a week and meet with Russian speakers.
This person should have an excellent command of spoken Russian and be able to converse easily. They may be asked to translate Russian to English for the nursing staff. Experience working with seniors is not a requirement, but would be an asset. Complete confidentiality is expected of this volunteer.
The volunteer will have the pleasure of meeting Russian speaking residents and doing them a great service by assisting them integrate and participate in social events at the facility. Volunteer will complete a 2 hour orientation session. A criminal record check is required. This is at no cost to the volunteer and requires completing a simple form online.
