Position description: 

We have openings with our Navigation and Wayfinding team:
Navigation and Wayfinding Volunteer

Hours: Weekdays 8am - 12pm and 12 - 4pm
Time Commitment: one 4-hour shift per week
Duration: 1 Year
Location: Navigation stations throughout BC Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital and Health Centre - 4480 Oak St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3N1

Purpose:
To create a positive experience for patients and families at the CW campus by providing friendly assistance, information, directions and support during their visit

Deliverables/Duties: 

• Serve as first point of contact for hospital guests, greeting them with courtesy and respect
• Effectively and correctly guide patients, families and others to their destination, providing clear directions and/or escorting them to the desired location
• Orient families to buildings, the designated parking areas, the campus, and associated services and resources
• Proactively roam the campus to assist lost or disoriented persons
• Print and deliver best wishes to patients in hospital wards
• Continuously demonstrate self-awareness by modeling professional behaviour and representing the Navigation Team positively at all times
• Provide guidance and support to new peer volunteers with Navigation and Wayfinding information

Qualifications: 

• Knowledgeable of campus, services and resources offered on-site and in the surrounding community
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Able to work independently as well as a vital part of the team
• Able to problem solve, be dynamic, mature, responsible and engaging with the general public
• 16+ years of age
• Provide 2 character reference, obtain Criminal Records Clearance and complete the PHSA online Privacy Course and Respectful Workplace Policy
• Comply with all requirements set out by Volunteer Resources General Hospital Orientation

Additional Information: 

Upon the completion of 75 hours of volunteer service, our office will provide a reference letter for the volunteer. A Criminal Record Check will be conducted if the applicant is selected for an interview.
