Position description: 

Help us build a Men’s Shed at Broadway Lodge. This will be either a replacement for the shed (or workshop) you had before you downsized or lost to storage or the shed you always wanted. Your role will be to support the resident's in the Shed under the direction of the recreation worker. We meet every Tuesday.

Activities and goals may change in time, along with the shed membership. And certain sheds might focus on a single activity while others might have many. Here is a list of potential activities that the shed might include

Drop in – socialize with coffee/tea.
Bikes and bike repair.
Woodworking.
Small engine repair.
Cooking.
Gardening.
Mentoring and skill-sharing.
Walking or hiking.
Activism and community involvement.
Volunteering.
Music – listening and playing.
Culture-specific events/activities.
Workshops with invited guests.
Watch topic-specific videos and hold a discussion.
Book clubs.
Computers/technology workshops.
Home repair.
Health-related discussions and guest speakers

Such program support assists the Lodge to promote quality of life and recognition of individuals through targeted programs as expressed in the Lodge mission.

Deliverables/Duties: 

respectful of Broadway Lodge mission, vision and values
communicates with recreation staff in a timely manner to ensure projects are ready and available in time for program
designs, creates, cuts, prepares a variety of projects within skill level and knowledge
assists with locating materials for suitable for projects, preferably at no cost (options to be discussed with volunteer candidate after recruitment)
may assist on-site with program and project assembly, if desired
encourage participation of elders with patience and positive attitude
promotes success of elders in participation and self expression
assists with taking down / putting away program equipment and restoring space post program (if in attendance)
assists with recording participation statistics and returning elders to their floors if they need assistance
takes direction from recreation worker
follows volunteer assignment description

Qualifications: 

volunteer has suitable, safe, equipment, knowledge and skills related to projects and do basic preparation for residents.
A willingness to work with recreation worker in planning projects to support achieving the purpose of the program
Oh! Previous experience with life and a respectful attitude are all the qualifications required.
