Position description: 

Provides leadership and guidance for strategic communications from a media relations perspective. Creating new and original ways for VAFF to communicate effectively with the media. Creating, improving, and promoting VAFF's public image. Coming up with and applying improved public relation strategies.

  • Develop a PR & Media Strategy for VAFF that encompasses: media screenings/events, press conferences, and how to increase media coverage prior to the festival
  • Develop and maintain a database of Media Contacts
  • Negotiate media sponsorships (TV, radio, print, internet)
  • Manage the creation of Press Releases, Press Kits, Ads, PSAs
  • Provide input into the creation and distribution of promotional materials
  • Develop strategy for VAFF TV - YouTube Channel
  • Manage the PR & Media Relations Team
  • Manage freelance Media Correspondent, Videographers, Photographers and Video Editors 
  • Participate in monthly meetings with at least 60% attendance

This role is good for someone who:

  • Has a relationship with media or has the bravery to establish a relationship with media
  • Enjoys building relationships with media
  • Has at least 5+ years experience in PR
