Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House (MPNH) is a leader in building a healthy and engaged neighbourhood by connecting people and strengthening their capacity to create change. We are looking for help in our kitchen, in which we prepare and serve meals for members of the community.
On Tuesdays we host a Seniors Lunch, where we invite seniors and older adults (55+) to join us for a healthy social lunch. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve the meal, and help with the set up, take down, and clean up of the lunch.
On Fridays we host a Community Lunch, where we invite all community members to join us for a healthy multigenerational social lunch. Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve the meal, and help with the set up, take down, and clean up of the lunch.
Duties could include:
Basic food preparation - peeling, chopping, grating, measuring, cooking, etc
Serving plates to the guests at the table in Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House's dining hall
Monitoring and maintaining the coffee and tea station
Clearing tables and washing the plates after the lunch service
Set up the dining hall with tables and chairs, folding and storing them afterwards
New volunteers at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House are required:
To submit a volunteer application, including two non-family references
To complete a criminal record check
To complete MPNH's orientation
To volunteer with our food programs, volunteers should be:
Friendly, caring, empathic and welcoming towards all other volunteers, staff, and guests from a diverse range of ages and cultural backgrounds
Knowledgable in safe food handling practices, clean and orderly, able to operate safely and cooperatively in a kitchen with others
