General Board Member
Oak Counselling Services is seeking a Board Member at Large to help our organization thrive in its much-needed mission as a provider of quality, low cost counselling to residents of Metro Vancouver. Oak Counselling is in its 43rd year of operation and enjoys a very solid reputation in the community: our long waitlist for counselling attests to how well known we are. We seek to continue developing and improving our services, possibly broadening a network of funding sources. Our Board of Directors will play a key role in achieving this goal.
New Board members will be responsible for attending all Board of Directors' meetings (quarterly), Annual General Meetings and should be willing to participate in extraordinary Directors' meetings and sub-committees as needed.
Oak Counselling is looking for dedicated, positive, empathic individuals who place importance upon helping others and upon building community. As we look to maintain and develop our Society, Oak would value volunteer Board members who have some experience of not-for-profits, particularly in the social service sector. As well, experience in the areas of fundraising, project management and information systems would be a great addition to our existing Board's skill set.
For this position, specifically, we are looking for a member with a background and experience in clinical counselling, social work, or clinical psychology, and some experience with agency work.
Individuals who are intrinsically motivated and who value giving back to the community will find Oak Board membership a very gratifying and rewarding role. Oak Counselling fills a unique niche amongst counselling providers in Vancouver. Because we are run entirely by volunteers, we can offer clients the lowest sliding fee scale for counselling in Metro Vancouver. Thus, we are providing service to many people in need who have little or no income or who face other barriers to accessing quality counselling. We attract volunteers to our organization who share a like-minded belief in the importance of this mandate. We can offer new Board members the opportunity to be part of a positive and nurturing environment. Applicants are requested to send a current resume, along with a letter of intent indicating how they feel they can contribute to the mission Oak Counselling Services.
