Food Hamper Delivery Driver
Kiwassa’s Food Programs is looking for individuals who are willing to help make deliveries as part of our emergency food hamper service in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shifts are Tuesday afternoons and last between 2 and 3 hours and require a personal vehicle and cell phone. Cyclists with bike trailers also welcome!
Most routes are in the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood (some available in other parts of the city if more convenient, however, all hampers must first be picked up from Hastings-Sunrise).
Volunteers are not required to deliver beyond the doorways of residents.
Our Food Program is in great need of a delivery driver/biker for their Food Hampers, and a market helper for their Weekly Food Markets. The Food Programs have been helping vulnerable populations, including seniors and immunocompromised, during the pandemic, and need help in continuing this great work! It is also important to note that volunteers in these positions will not be in direct physical contact with vulnerable populations.
Kiwassa is also taking careful COVID-19 precautions to ensure safety for all our volunteers, including 2-metre physical distancing, no sharing of objects, mandatory mask requirement, and available sanitizers.
- Safe driving and good parking skills
- Positive and friendly attitude towards Hamper recipients
- Ability to safely life food hamper bags
Perks of this position:
- Contribute a necessary service to those most vulnerable during this pandemic
- Work independently as part of a bigger team
- Meet interesting people
- Gas vouchers available in return for service (fresh produce for cyclists).

We are always looking for fun, enthusiastic, responsible and community-minded people to join our volunteer family. You don’t have to have a specific skill or be an expert to start volunteering with us, as long as you are willing to learn, share, contribute and make a difference in the community.
We look for support in many areas of our programming. Our volunteers work with children, youth, seniors and neighbours of all ages. Our volunteers prepare meals in the kitchen, provide tutoring support, support newcomers with interpretation, chat with neighbours at our community events, and help keep things organized behind the scenes. We have volunteers supporting in diverse community programs like crafts, dance, foodbank, summer camp, daycare and English as a Second Language classes.
We offer ongoing training for our volunteers, and an opportunity to develop your leadership, facilitation and community engagement skills. Volunteer work is a great way to gain new skills and give back to your community!
