Volunteer with Face of Today (FOT) - A Positive Contribution to Community

AT FOT, we are committed to shifting perceptions surrounding mental health through collective awareness, programs and community experiences. We empower vulnerable youth through mentorship, integrative programming and community engagement to support mental wellbeing in Metro Vancouver.

In May of 2019, FOT opened its doors to provide new youth-centred initiatives. At the heart of this program are FOT Volunteers who nurture positive and impactful change for youth who might not otherwise get the support they need for their mental health. FOT Volunteers help youth in FOT’s programs discover and follow their aspirations and dreams.

Volunteering with FOT not only supports vulnerable youth in our communities, it also supports volunteers by improving their own health and wellness while also expanding their experiences, skills and community networking opportunities.

A new volunteer leadership opportunity is now open for a member of our FOT team as our Fitness & Movement Ambassador.

Face of Today is establishing a team of Founding Volunteers who collaborate with FOT’s Visionary Team to build our benchmark resource center’s services and programming. Our leadership team members are passionate about their respective fields, providing professional leadership and resources within FOT’s program pillars:

Fitness & Movement Ambassador:

This is an off-site lead position for the Strengthen Pillar at the Face of Today Foundation. The position is part volunteer, part paid by contract.

The person in this position:

Recruits, orients and coordinates new and engaged instructors all fitness and wellness programming at the Face of Today resource centre and any identified out-reach locations (profit and non-profit classes, sessions and workshops.) Sought after instructors include, circuit, HIIT, Tabata, Dance (fitness) Barre, Boxing (fitness), Stretching, Yoga, Pilates and Meditation.
identifies possible new community partnership and sponsorship opportunities for FOT with fitness and wellness businesses in the Vancouver area.
Provide ongoing administrative support for FOT’s fitness programming using FOT’s branded MINDBODY and FITMETRIX  (MBFM) apps. These apps will be launched in late 2019 and will be utilized for all instructor engagement, program access and monitoring as well as staff payment (with the exclusion class fees paid in person at the FOT centre.)

 

 

Deliverables/Duties: 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration shared with leadership team to update CRM files for instructors and programming using MINDBODY & FITMETRIX (MBFM) software

Attend meetings with selected Visionary Team members as needed at FOT
Organize Coordinator and instructor schedules via MBFM apps and find instructors and subs when necessary.

Organize Group Fitness schedules quarterly

Interact with instructors to ensure that their profiles and logins with FOT’s MBFM apps and are completed and monitored as per guidelines provided.

Ensure, review and support FOT’s Strengthen Pillar guidelines. For example: ensuring that all instructors are familiar with house rules for leading classes, pay rates, sign-in requirements, payment at site requirements, participants wearing fitness appropriate clothing, respecting other people using the facility and respecting the available equipment.

Keep track of non-profit class schedule when payments by participants are made to the Instructors.

Monthly:

Organize outstanding invoicing not addressed through the FOT MBFM apps for instructors, as  per guidelines provided.
Provide all coordinators and instructors with a one-page contract

Taking interested and new instructors on tours around the  fitness facility at FOT and ensuring they are aware of how the profit and non-profit model works for the Strengthen Pillar

Ensure instructors are able to access and utilize their app logins for classes and sessions at FOT
Provide educational information for the instructors if they need further guidance

Track coordinator hours to ensure contract requirements are being met

Instructor/Staff Evaluation and ongoing coordinator feedback.

Qualifications: 

 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Standard First Aid
Current CPR “C”
Leadership attributes
Organizational skills
Criminal Record Check (can be completed)

ASSETS:

Wide reaching professional network in the Vancouver area
Strong skills in relationship building
Possession of the following Can Fit Pro, BCRPA, ACE or equivalent Fitness Leader Certificates
Personal Training
Group Fitness
Administrative skills and knowledge in MINDBODY and FITMETRIX platrforms
Creativity and critical thinking skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
University degree in Kinesiology, Arts or related college diploma
Experience in a leadership role
Motivating leader

Training Provided for this role:

The MINDBODY and FITMETRIX training certification courses and review of handbooks.

FOT Mental Health First Aid Training Certification (January 2020.)
