Position description: 

The Kinnections Program connects Indigenous youth aged 16-19 years old with volunteer mentors. Our goal is to provide youth with life skills training in hopes that these skills will assist them with their transition into adulthood. Youth set their own goals and volunteer mentors assist youth to achieve those goals.

•Job search
•Housing search
•Applying to college
•Budgeting
•Getting fit
•Friendship

We are seeking volunteers from all backgrounds to engage in long term, meaningful, supportive, and consistent relationships with youth. Volunteer mentors work with their youth in a one on one capacity in the community. Volunteer mentors assist their youth with goal setting and achieving goals.

Deliverables/Duties: 

•Meet weekly with youth for 2-4 hours
•Able to commit for minimum 1 year
•Communicates monthly with Program Coordinator
•Engages youth in life skills training (resume, job search, grocery shopping, etc)
•Able to brainstorm free and engaging activities to do with a youth

Qualifications: 

•Mature, positive role model
•Relates well to youth and their needs
•Accepts youth as is
•Able to communicate via internet and text messaging
•Successfully completes all aspects of the screening process including a criminal record check

•We offer bimonthly training for all volunteers (residential schools, FASD, sexual self esteem, mental health, gang prevention, etc)
•Monthly group outings (paintball, movies, powwows, laser tag, storytelling, kayaking, etc)
•Passes to community and recreational programming
