Family Drop-In Playroom Assistant

Position description: 

Volunteer assists playroom staff with the set-up, daily routine and clean-up of a busy morning and afternoon (Wednesdays) drop-in program for families with children from birth to five.

Deliverables/Duties: 

Set up the playroom at the beginning of the day.
Engage in interpersonal communication between families, caregivers, and children. Welcoming families to the drop-in program. 
Assisting staff with daily routines, and with arts and crafts activities. 
Playing with children, and also occassionally, helping caregivers watch their children for a short period.
Tidy up at the end of the morning or afternoon. 

 

Qualifications: 

Good communication skills.
Experience with young children preferred but not essential.
Second language an asset.

Additional Information: 

Ongoing training provided by program staff. Experience working with young children and their families for those considering a related career would be a bonus. Required: Police criminal record check in vulnerable section.
