PROSPECTIVE BOARD MEMBERS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

What is the structure of the FCCA Board?

There are 15 elected/appointed Directors on the Board, with the Past President serving as an Ex-Officio member. 50% +1 are required to be in the catchment area: the waterfront to 16th Avenue, and Cambie Street to Burrard Street. Board members are elected by the membership at the AGM for two-year terms, and the term limit is four consecutive years (two consecutive terms). Any vacancies that occur are filled for the remainder of the year by Board appointment.

 

What are the Committees of the Board?

Executive Officers – President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Past President; Finance; Facilities/Fitness Centre; Governance; and Program Committees

 

What is the time commitment required of a Board member?

Board meetings are usually held the third Monday of the month, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. There are no scheduled Board Meetings in July, August or December. Additional time is required for serving on a committee or the Executive, or undertaking other special initiatives. All board members are encouraged to participate in one or more standing committees and volunteer at community centre events.

 

What is the Association’s annual budget?

Approximately $1 million in revenue and expenses annually. In addition, the Association holds approximately $1.1 million in Board-restricted funds, set aside for specific future projects.

 

How is the Community Centre run?

The Centre is operated jointly by the Vancouver Park Board and the False Creek Community Association through a joint operating agreement. The buildings are owned by CMHC Granville Island, and leased to the Vancouver Park Board.

 

What is the staffing structure?

It is a shared leadership model, with Park Board employees, Association employees, and program contractors. We also have volunteers to help with programs.

 

What Clubs operate out of the community centre?

There are three affiliate member organizations – the False Creek Racing Canoe Club, the Pacific Road Runners and the False Creek Tennis Club.

 

Deliverables/Duties: 

False Creek Community Association’s (FCCA) mission is to provide and operate a Community Centre that serves the educational, cultural, recreational, athletic and social needs of the citizens of Vancouver, in particular the Fairview/False Creek community.
