Position description: 
  • The Digital Literacy Project is a program developed around the current needs of Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House participants during the COVID-19 pandemic. It seeks to increase the overall digital literacy of our community by connecting participants to online resources such as government funding, online tutoring, and the basic functioning of programs such as Zoom and Gmail
  • The project has expanded to include the Digital Seniors program, which conducts small, in-person one on one technology sessions with seniors
  • The program consists of:

              -  Attending the Digital Seniors program every third Friday (this may change) at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House from 9:45am – 12:15pm.

              -  Completing a COVID-19 checklist within 24 hours of the program start time

 

Deliverables/Duties: 
  • Assisting staff with step-up of the program room (tables, chairs, computers, etc.)
  • Reviewing a form related to the digital literacy needs of the senior coming in for the program
  • Completing a one on one session with a senior while maintaining a social distance of 2 metres
  • Examples of potential session topics: learning parts of a computer, browsing the Internet, attaching a file to an email, etc.

 

Qualifications: 
  • 18 years or older
  • Intermediate level spoken English
  • Confident in computer and/or phone basics
  • Huge asset: A second language – especially Spanish, Chinese, Arabic
  • Be empathetic, patient, and respectful of a diverse group of people
  • Able to complete a Criminal Record Check
