Crisis Line Volunteer

Position description: 

Volunteers provide non-judgmental emotional support, referral information and crisis intervention to a diverse population of callers in distress. The Crisis Line operates from 8am to midnight, 7 days a week.
Volunteers must commit to 4 hours on the Crisis Line every week for 100 hours (all training excluded). this includes one 8pm-midnight shift each month.

Deliverables/Duties: 

Active Listening Skills, Help callers in distress, Provide emotional support and resources, basic counselling

 

Qualifications: 

Volunteers must be 19 years or older. Have a good command of spoken English. Non-judgmental, able to listen well, be committed and reliable, willing to learn, Must have successfully completed Chimo's Crisis Line training.

Additional Information: 

No experience necessary. Over 50 hours of comprehensive training provided in basic counselling skills, and other topics including addictions, mental health, abuse, and crisis intervention. Help people in crisis, contribute to the community.

Communication skills development; networking opportunities; personal and professional growth; gain valuable employment-related skills, knowledge, and experience.

Volunteers receive a certificate and are eligible for job and school references after commitment period is fulfilled. Requires police records check Coffee / Tea
