Community Outing Volunteer

Position description: 

As a provider of housing and care for adults with disabilities the Residences for Independent Living Society sees great value in being an active member of the community in which you live. So this position provides support for our tenants to get out and enjoy False Creek, Vancouver and perhaps more!
As a Community Outing Volunteer you will work 1 to 1 with one of our tenants weekly. This could include walks, library or museum and gallery visits, shopping, hair appointments, special events... the possibilities are endless.

Deliverables/Duties: 

Volunteer will show up during agreed upon time and get a variety of experiences in the community supporting an adult living with a physical disability. Volunteers will be orientated and provided appropriate information to be safe and comfortable while out in the community.

Qualifications: 

All that is required is the desire to help! We also appreciate compassion, understanding, patience, a sense of humour, and stamina! Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Additional Information: 

Training and support will be provided for you to become comfortable in providing support for an individual with a disability. This could include, wheelchair handling, communication skills and more. In these times of competitive academic and employment pursuits volunteer experience is highly valued. The experience you gain at the Residences for Independent Living could make the difference for you!
It really feels great to experience what you may consider to be everyday events through a new pair of eyes, while giving back! Must be 18+ years old to volunteer with our organization! Coffee / Tea
