Community Lunch Volunteer
Gordon Neighbourhood House is looking for volunteer assistance with our Community Lunch Program.
Everyone is invited to lunch at Gordon Neighbourhood House. Community Lunches are an opportunity for community members to enjoy a meal together, meet new people, and catch up with friends in a casual environment.
The Community Lunch program runs from Monday-Thursday and is guided by the Gordon House food philosophy of making diverse and healthy food that is accessible for everyone.
Monday and Wednesday is a nutritionally balanced vegan/vegetarian bowl and is ‘pay what you can’ for the guests. Tuesday and Thursday is a $5 three course lunch with a meat based main course. Typically we have about 30 guests who come from across the community, and kids eat for free.
The program is led by a staff chef but we are reliant on the assistance of a team of volunteers to prep the food, set up the room, serve the guests, and clean up afterwards.
Volunteers are needed from 10.30am-2.30pm with lunch being served at 12.30pm. This program is a fantastic opportunity to learn kitchen skills and recipes, meet new people, and give back to the community.
Volunteers in this position should be able to work in a busy kitchen environment, chopping meat and vegetables and cleaning as you go. Volunteers are responsible for setting up tables and chairs, serving the guests and cleaning up afterwards.
No qualifications necessary, but kitchen experience and food safe is an assest.
