Board Secretary
Our arts and culture organization is looking for an articulate and well-organized secretary to join our board of directors.
Board meeting minutes serve as an official and legal record and are used to detail future plans.
Taking good meeting minutes at our board meetings is an important executive role.
Please let us know if you're interested and available to take on this responsible board position.
This appointment would begin following election at our AGM, to be held on Zoom on Monday, March 22, 7:00 to 7:45pm.
Good listening skills--More than anybody else in the meeting a minute taker needs to be listening 100 percent of the time (no daydreaming here!).
Assertiveness--Minute takers must have the confidence to be able to speak up in a meeting (where appropriate) and clarify points.
Organized--You show up at the meeting having read the agenda, any background papers, the minutes of the previous meeting, and with all the tools you need to take the minutes whether that be pen, highlighter, paper, recording device, laptop or iPad. You bring an extra pen.
Prompt--You share your draft of the minutes with the chair and executive director within 1 or 2 days of the meeting.
You are a good listener and take notes effectively.
You document the key points of the meeting, as well as motions, votes, and items for action to come.
You are available for one two-hour meeting every two months, usually scheduled for a weekday evening.
You are interested in social justice and equity for all.
Good command of written English
Sound critical thinker

Knowledge of local literary or Nikkei communities an asset but not essential
