Trail Race Volunteers - Pender Harbour Swamp Thing
Pre-sweep/Flagging (6:30 - 8:30 am), 2 volunteers - Along with Chris, our Logistics Coordinator, complete the race circuit before the racers to ensure the circuit is safe. Flag trail intersections and regular intervals along the trail.
Set-up (7:30 - 8:30 am), 2 volunteers - Help set up signage, registration booth.
Race Registration (8 - 9 am), 2 volunteers - Register race participants in their respective race distance. Match arriving racers with their registration information and provide them with their racing bibs.
Aid Station (8:30 - 11 am), 1 volunteer - Help our friend Nick attend the aid station, hand out water, snacks, and high fives to race participants.
Timers (8:30 - 11 am), 2 volunteers - Use racer bib numbers and our new race app to record start and finish times for our racers.
Clean up (11:30 am - 12 pm), 2 volunteers - Help tear down signage and registration booth
Trail sweeps (11 am - 12 pm), 2 volunteers - Run/walk the trail circuit at the end of the race to ensure no racer is left behind.
Marshal (8:30 - 11 am), 3 volunteers - Run/walk/bike to your designated Marshal station to arrive for 8:30 am. Marshals are in charge of making sure runners make the correct turns and don't go off course, as well as complete loops when they're supposed to. For the Swamp Thing we need Marshals at 3 key intersections: Swamp Thing/Copperhead, Lucy's Loop/Copperhead, and Copperhead/Copper Connector.
Previous race registration experience an asset but not required for race registration volunteers. Some trail running/mountain biking and/or racing experience an asset for flaggers, marshals, aid station attendant, and sweeps.
Must be a morning person with a postive, fun attitude and ability to work in a team.
Must be able to be outdoors in all weather.
Must be able to take direction.
Must be able to scan lists quickly, multi-task, and be detail-oriented.
Must be safety-minded.
Time commitment varies per position, but is 1 hour for the shortest and 3-4 hours for the longest. If you would like to volunteer for more than one position (i.e. complete the pre-sweep/flagging, then help with the aid station, then help with clean up, or be a timer and then help with clean up) that would be fantastic! Just let us know when you contact us to apply.
