Thrift Store Volunteer
BASES is a large Family Thrift Store located at 7825 Edmonds Street and we serve the Edmonds/ Kingsway community of Burnaby. The Burnaby Association for the South East Side (BASES) was formed in 2010 as a non profit organization to assist at-risk children/ youth and families in Southeast Burnaby. All profits of the BASES Family Thrift Store provide sustainable funding for a wide variety of out-of-school programs for the 6 elementary schools and 1 high school in the neighbourhood.
Our thrift store operates using the generosity and skills of our volunteers. Contribute to your community, share your expertise or gain work experience.
We have a wide variety of volunteer positions available including:
- receiving, sorting and pricing donations
- setting up and restocking displays
- store promotion through social media
We are open 7 days a week from 10 am - 5:30 pm (Mon - Sat) and 12 pm - 5:00 pm (Sunday). We are always looking for volunteers to work between 2 - 4 hour shifts either on the weekdays or the weekends. We accept applications from High school and University students, retirees, new immigrants, or any adult interested in supporting and giving back to our community schools.
There will be a variety of duties available - from receiving, sorting and pricing donations to working on the sales floor. There may be an opportunity to get training on cash registers.
No special qualifications are required. We will provide all training needed.
Because we depend on our volunteers to run our thrift store business, we require volunteers who can make a commitment to consistently arrive for their scheduled shifts.
Volunteers have the opportunity to gain a variety of work experiences, develop connections in the community and may obtain references for future work after a minimum of 3 months of reliable volunteering with us.
