Royal Columbian Hospital TLC Volunteer Visitor
The Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincially designated hospital for cardiac, trauma, neurosciences, high-risk maternity and neonatal intensive care providing the highest level of care to the most critically ill and injured from the Fraser Health region and throughout B.C.
Our TLC Visiting Volunteers enhance our healthcare services by providing support for our patients and visitors. As a TLC Volunteer your role is to visit with patients who may not have family or friends living near by. May also assist patients, who have mobility issues, at meal times.
Various 3 hour shifts are available daily: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Volunteer visitors offer companionship by conversation, reading, playing games, personal attention, walks.
Assist at meal times.
Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
Good understanding and practice of setting boundaries.
Must be comfortable meeting and conversing with patients.
Ability to be assertive and a self starter.
Must have previous related volunteer or work experience.
Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and be able to push clients in wheelchairs.
Must be able to understand and be understood in English. The ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Criminal Record Check, and Reference Checks will be required prior to commencing volunteering.
MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS.
Must provide proof of current measles and flu immunization (when required)
Volunteer orientation and hospital tour.
Meal Assistance orientation.
In-service as identified. Helping others and giving back to the community.
Gaining valuable work experience
Developing new skills
Exploring a new career
References provided after 9 months and/or 100 hours of volunteer service.
