Position description:

To travel with Care Home residents to medical appointments via the Handydart or taxi. To help elders locate medical offices and bring back medical notes if needed. Our medical escorts are called as needed to accompany residents to medical appointments. We provide care, support and housing to our residents.

To volunteer as a medical appointment escort you must have one or more weekdays available. Most medical appointments are during the day 8am-5:30pm Monday to Friday. As an escort you would be phoned to see if you were available when one of our residents needs to visit a doctor, dentist or hospital. Travel is provided by the Handydart bus system or taxi. The medical escort comes to New Vista and is given information about the resident and their appointment, and then they accompany the resident on their trip. You may be asked to talk to the doctor after the appointment to get any follow up information or to bring back a letter with instructions from the doctor. Because we never know when a medical appointment will be scheduled, this is not a steady job, but a random job.
