Kids' Craft Assistant Volunteer (Summer Camps, Birthdays, Pro-D Days, Spring Break, After-School, and Events)

Position description: 

The Port Moody Arts Centre is looking for active and energetic volunteers (aged 14 and up) for our kids' arts camps, programs, and events! Craft Assistant Volunteers have the choice to help out at weekend birthday parties, summer or spring break camps, after school programs, Pro-D Days, or at community events (on-site and off-site). You can pick the programs or events that fit your schedule. Below are our current opportunities for 2019!

Summer Camps and After-Camp Care

Our creative week-long art camps which run throughout the summer. Each program during our upcoming summer season runs Monday to Friday from July 2 to August 30. There are a variety of themes, including visual art (painting and drawing), clay, mixed media, fashion design, hand sewing, acting, and more! Volunteers support Instructors with the children's creative crafts and projects, lunchtime supervision, and act as role models for campgoers. This is a great opportunity for growing leadership skills! 

After-Camp Care provides care and supervision for children after Summer Camps until their guardians are able to pick them up, no later than 5:30 PM. Volunteers help to supervise and interact with children, participating in various activities such as board games and arts and crafts.

  • Summer Camp Schedules 2019 (July 2 - August 30)
  • Full Day: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
  • After Camp Care: 3:00 PM - 5:45 PM

Birthday Parties

Led by one of our talented Arts Centre Instructors, up to 12 children participate in an exciting hour of a creative art or clay activity followed by an hour of booked room space in our decorated birthday room. Birthday parties happen on the weekend. Our volunteers assist the Instructors by encouraging children to create their masterpieces in a fun and welcoming environment. Volunteering at children's birthday parties is a fantastic way to create fun memories, make friends, and gain important group-work skills!

  • Birthday Party Shift Times
  • Saturday and Sunday (as required) 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.

Pro-D Days

We host day-long Pro-D Day activities. Pro-D Days follow the School District 43 schedule.

Events

The Port Moody Arts Centre participates in various community events throughout Port Moody and the Tri-Cities, such as the Port Moody Community Fair, Car-Free Day, Ioco Ghost Town Day and more! Craft Volunteers assist children with artwork at a craft table during off-site and in-house events. If you are outgoing and enjoy a fast-paced and fun environment, this is the role for you! Volunteers will be notified of the events as they approach. Directions will be provided to off-site events.

The Port Moody Arts Centre Society is a charitable organization mandated to develop, promote and celebrate the visual, performing and literary arts in Port Moody. The Arts Centre offers over 350 classes annually to all ages. We have a contemporary art gallery with new exhibitions throughout the year.  The Arts Centre inspires creativity in a friendly atmosphere by building connections in the Tri-Cities communities.

Deliverables/Duties: 
  • Assist with activity set up and clean up (putting out tables and chairs, mixing paint, organizing art supplies, etc.)
  • Enthusiastically encourage children with the art activity
  • Energetically help Instructors with tasks as they arise
Qualifications: 
  • Must be 14 years of age
  • Comfortable and interested in volunteering with children (ages 5 to 12)
  • Dependable and patient
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Enjoy making art projects
  • An interest in culture and the arts is an asset.

Additional Information: 

Successful applicants will be contacted for a brief interview. A current police information check is required for teens and adults.

Youth between the ages of 14 and 18, must complete and submit a Parent/Guardian Consent form.

Reference letters can be provided after 30 volunteer hours.
