Position description: 

Teach Basic English to newcomers to Canada with a focus on developing English skills through a hands-on exploration of our Neighbourhood House. This is NOT a structured class with a prearranged lesson plan. The volunteer teacher will have a free hand in choosing teaching material based on the interest and knowledge level of students.

Lessons include:
•Open conversation in English
•Newcomers' information
•How to use community resources (bus, Skytrain, banking systems, shopping, etc.)
•Social interaction with neighbours
Volunteer will be working one to two hours, once a week at South House - 100-4460 Beresford Street

Qualifications: 

Group facilitation skills are required. Some teaching experience preferred. Suitable for people working towards getting an ESL Teacher Certificate or instructors who have retired and have time to spare.
