Position Details
Position: Peer Support for HIV positive male
Organization: Yaletown House SocietyOpen site in new window
Mission Statement: A residence providing intermediate care for 130 older adults. Committed to achieving maximum independence, self determination and enjoyment of daily living. Provides three nutritious meals, individual rooms, podiatry, dental and hair care services. Offers extensive recreation opportunities including outings, gardening, cooking, ceramics, silk painting, crafts, music, computer and Tai Chi.

Description: Male, between the ages of 40 - 60 requested to be a peer support visitor for a resident who is HIV positive.
Duties will include socialization and assisting this resident to go into the community for walks and coffee.
Volunteers Required: 1
Skills and Experience: Ability to work independently.
Understands the importance of confidentiality.
Personal experience with HIV/Aids.

Reimbursements: Coffee / Tea
Training Provided: Orientation to the facility and position will be provided by the Coordinator of Volunteers.

Experience volunteering in a complex-care facility.
Reference letter after three months of service.
