Wellington Park Clean Team, Co-Leaders (2-3 openings)

Position description: 

United Way Avenues of Change (UWAOC) hosts monthly Wellington Park Clean up under its Child-Friendly Neighbourhood Campaign in partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam Adopt a Spot Program. Wellington Park Clean Team Co-Leaders are passionate Coquitlam River residents who play a leadership role in mobilizing neighbourhood residents to work together to keep the park space safe, clean, and beautiful through the coordination of monthly clean-ups.

Wellington Park Clean-Team Co-Leaders will also serve as liasons between the Volunteer Coordinator and clean up participants, and be the registered co-contact persons for City of Port Coquitlam Adopt-a-Spot Program staff.

Deliverables/Duties: 

As required by City of Port Coquitlam Adopt a Spot Program:

  • Complete on-line application form
  • Complete Criminal Record Check
  • Complete training provided by City of Port Coquitlam staff, and on-line Sharps & Universal Precautions quiz 
  • Complete and submit activity logs and other documentation as needed (e.g. First Aid Report, Action Form).
  • Familiarize self with and implement Adopt-A-Spot Safety Guidelines and Best Practices
  • Check list of supplies provided by City of Port Coquitlam, and fill out re-supply request as needed

As required byUWAOC:

(shared duties among Co-Leaders, and in conjunction with UWAOC staff)

  • Determine clean-up dates and times 
  • Promote and encourage participation among C.R residents
  • Store supplies/equipment or arrange for pick-up/drop-off of equipment with Avenues of Change staff 
  • Send out reminder emails and/or telephone to Clean-Crew members
  • Coordinate, purchase light refreshment/snack for Clean-Crew
  • Stay apprised of addtional opportunities and engagements with Avenues of Change

 

Duties on days of park clean-up:

  • Post promotional signs up around perimeter of park
  • Set-up meeting spot (ie tent, table)
  • ​Transport and distribute supplies/equipment
  • Maintain participant/attendance list
  • Review safety guidelines with new participants if necessary
  • Ensure safety of all participants 
  • Track inventory and supplies before and after clean-up
  • Ensure garbage and recycling are properly sorted and ready for pick-up in designated collection area
  • Encourage connections among participants
  • Promote additional opportunities and/or engagements offered by UWAOC
Qualifications: 
  • Coquitlam River resident 
  • Passionate about improving and growing neighbourhood connections
  • Motivated to grow a child-friendly neighbourhood that is clean, safe, and beautiful
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player, enjoy working with others
  • Enjoy being outdoors
  • Looking for opportunity to volunteer with your family/children
  • Able to committ to two hours a month
