Science World British Columbia is a charitable organization dedicated to engaging British Columbians in science and inspiring future science and technology leadership throughout our province.
Position: Super Science Club (SSC) Volunteer
Reports to: Program Specialist, Community Engagement & SSC Facilitators

What is Super Science Club?
The Super Science Club (SSC) is dynamic after school program for inner city schools in Vancouver that operates through the Science World Outreach Department. We deliver hands-on, interactive science programming to students in grades 1-3 and 4-7. As a volunteer with this program, you have an important role in providing a fun and interactive club environment for the participants in the Super Science Club. There are two terms: October to December, and February to April. During January and the summer months, we plan our program for the upcoming term or year.

What will you do?
• Assist facilitators in delivery of the Super Science Club Program
• Represent Science World with enthusiasm
Assist with program preparations as required
• Assist participants with activities and crafts
• Opportunity to help with social media marketing for the program e.g. taking pictures
• Office work such as data entry and program prep
Research science-related games and activities for the topics
Test the activities yourself and help us make adaptions


Can you commit to…
• 10 consecutive weeks of a 4 hour afternoon shift at least once a week when SSC is running during the school term
• a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer time
• attending our mandatory orientation session –- Sunday, February 26 (8:30am-2:00pm)
• specific role training

Super Science Club Program Dates & Hours

February to April - going out to schools
Monday to Thursday 1:30pm to 5:30pm

May to September - research and prep in the office
Monday to Thursday 1:30pm to 5:30pm

October to December - going out to schools
Monday to Thursday 1:30pm to 5:30 pm


Who will qualify for this role?
• You are interested in a variety of scientific concepts
• You are professional and responsible
• You have experience interacting with children
• You are able to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
• You are a flexible team player willing to take initiative
You are hoping to develop your classroom management and presentation skills
