Science World British Columbia is a charitable organization dedicated to engaging British Columbians in science and inspiring future science and technology leadership throughout our province.

Position: "Science Ninja" Demonstration Team Volunteer
Reports to: Eureka Gallery Curator, On the Road Coordinator & Science Facilitators

Who are the "Science Ninjas"?
The Science Ninja demonstration team rove through high traffic areas of Science World, popping up with awesome one on one science demonstrations with visitors to enhance their visit. The Science Ninjas may also have the opportunity to join Science World staff members at public events outside of the building.

What will you do?
Your role is to enhance the experience of visitors by performing demonstrations at various locations around Science World. You may be working in teams of 2-3 or may have times when you are working by yourself. You will be trained in the safe and fun way to do a particular set of demonstrations. More specifically, you will:
• Greet visitors to Science World and answer their questions
• Engage visitors with fun science demonstrations on a wide range of topics
• Assist with demonstrations and table activities at locations outside of Science World (under the supervision of a Science World staff member)
• Represent Science World with enthusiasm
• Assist the staff with general maintenance of the demonstration equipment and supplies

Deliverables/Duties: 

Can you commit to…
• a 4 hour volunteer shift once a week
• a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer time
• attending our mandatory orientation session – Sunday, February 26th (8:30am-2:00pm)
• demonstration specific training

Availability Requirement:
Weekends and holidays: 12noon-4pm

Qualifications: 

Who will qualify for this role?
• You’re an outgoing HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT (Grades 10-12, sixteen years old or older) with an enthusiasm for communicating science
• You have experience with presentations and performance (theatre experience is an asset)
• You like to meet new people and learn new things
• You’re interested in talking to children and their parents about science
