Science World British Columbia is a charitable organization dedicated to engaging British Columbians in science and inspiring future science and technology leadership throughout our province.

Position: Our World Sustainability Science “Interpreter
Reports to: Our World Gallery Curator and Science Facilitators

What is Our World?
The Our World gallery explores various global environmental impact subjects, from electricity, water consumption and waste. Visitors will explore how our everyday decisions can affect the world around us, and what we can do to make the world a healthier, more sustainable place. Visitors will learn what people are doing all around the world to create positive change. Our World Interpreter volunteers will be working with sustainability science topics, leading tabletop activities in the Our World gallery and assisting with other green programming. Our World Interpreter volunteers may also help facilitate activities and programs in the outdoor Ken Spencer Science Park based on needs and interests. Your role is to ensure that visitors have a positive experience and learn about sustainability in an interactive way!

What will you do?
• Work closely with staff, other volunteers and visitors in the context of hands-on activities
• Greet visitors to Our World and answer their questions
• Represent Science World with enthusiasm
• Assist the staff with general maintenance of the exhibits

Deliverables/Duties: 

Can you commit to…
• a 2-4 hour volunteer shift once a week
• a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer time
• attending our mandatory orientation session - Sunday, February 26th (8:30am-2:00pm)
• gallery specific training

Availability Requirements:
Monday to Friday 10:00am –- 5:00pm
Weekend & Statutory holidays 10:00am –- 6:00pm
Thursdays in July & August 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Qualifications: 

Who will qualify for this role?
• You are passionate about sustainability science and would enjoy creating up-cycled projects or facilitating activities with visitors
• You are self-motivated, outgoing and approachable
• You have experience working with children and their families
• You are able to work in a team environment
• You can easily adapt to changing roles and responsibilities
