Position description: 

Minds in Motion is a fun fitness and social program for people experiencing early stage memory loss. A 45 minute fitness program is followed by an hour of socializing and activities such as billiards, Wii, ping pong, board games, etc. People with dementia may attend alone or with a care partner.

We require volunteers to help coordinate the set up/ take down and, most importantly, assist attendees with their participation. Must be able to commit to at least 6 months.

The volunteer program assistant will help with set up and clean up of refreshments, games and activities for the social part of the program and assist the program facilitator to ensure activity participation and socialization. This may include spending one to one time with participants who need extra support.


Under the direction of the fitness instructor, provide assistance to participants during the fitness part of the program
- Assist with the set up and clean-up of refreshments, and with games and activities for the social part of the program
- Assist the facilitator to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be included, has an enjoyable experience, and is able to participate in activities and socializing. This may include spending one-to-one time with participants who need extra support. Please note this program is on Fridays from 1:15 to 3:15 pm. Volunteers are required to be there from 12:45 to 3:30pm


The volunteer should enjoy being with people, be comfortable reaching out and including others and be patient, friendly and fun; comfortable in a non-competitive, inclusive environment.

Have experience working with older adults. Minimum 6 month commitment is preferred.

Have at least a basic knowledge and experience with dementia

Be physically able to participate in the fitness part of the program

Have the physical ability to lift light weights and supplies
