Better At Home is a program designed to help seniors live independently in their homes by providing affordable non-medical support services. The Friendly Visitor plays a vital role in alleviating the negative effects of social isolation. As a volunteer, you would provide emotional support and social contact to a person who has become, or is in danger of becoming, socially isolated. We required 5 female visitor volunteers, 2 in Marpole, 2 in Oakridge and 1 in Dunbar, for up to two hours each week (depending on volunteer and senior's needs/request).
Visit the senior in their home and strive to build a supportive relationship. Assist the senior with local short walks. Contact the program coordinator with any health or other concerns about the senior.
You enjoy the company of seniors. You have good listening and communication skills. You are patient, respectful and understanding. You will maintain confidentiality about all personal information. You will be consistent and reliable with your visits
