Position: Eureka Interpreter
Reports to: Eureka Gallery Curator and Science Facilitators
What is Eureka?
Eureka is the "what would happen if" gallery. Each exhibit provokes visitors to ask questions, and provides them with opportunities to answer them. The exhibits are creative and open-ended, focusing on physical science (fluids, motion, light, sound and machines). They're designed to appeal to 8 - 13 year olds (grades 3 - 8) and their families.
What will you do?
Your role in the gallery is to ensure that visitors have a positive experience and to help them direct their explorations. Eureka Interpreters may also be called on to assist with drop-in programming in the Innovation Lab (particularly on weekends). This may include games, activities and Make & Takes. More specifically, you will:
Interpret exhibits by asking questions, helping with exhibit operation, and performing small demonstrations
Work closely with staff, other volunteers and visitors in the context of hands-on activities
Greet visitors to Eureka and answer their questions
Represent Science World with enthusiasm
Assist the staff with general maintenance of the exhibits
Can you commit to
a 2 to 4 hour volunteer shift on a weekday
weekday shifts only for a period of at least 6 months
attending our mandatory orientation session: Sunday, February 26th (8:30am to 2:00pm)
gallery specific training
Monday to Fridays 10:00am - 2:00pm (one day per week)
Who will qualify for this role?
You will have a strong background in science and an enthusiasm for physics in particular
You are self-motivated, outgoing and approachable
You have experience working with children and their families
You are able to work in a team environment
You can easily adapt to changing roles and responsibilities
