The computer instructor provides information and support to seniors 55+ who want to become proficient in the use of the computer. Developing and delivering training sessions and providing one to one support are key components of the position. Assisting with the development and production of both information and promotion materials directly related to program will be required.
SCOPE OF WORK This position will be approximately 5 hours per week. I. Hours of work, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays with a half hour break. This position will be responsible for delivering three group instructional sessions per week approximately 1 hour long each in Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels. II. Areas to be focused on are but not limited to : • How to set up and use an email account; how to surf the web; how to access information that is of benefit to seniors. e.g. government pension information, health literacy • Help and empower seniors to develop skills necessary to become comfortable and competent with computer use III. The remainder of the time will be focused on the following: • Providing one to one computer support for seniors as requested. • Researching, developing and producing program related manuals and materials for the program participants • Developing curriculum plans for weekly classes • Participating in program and organizational planning, staff meetings and organizational related activities when appropriate.
This position requires the ability to function in both team environment and independently and requires the ability to function well under pressure and meet deadlines. The computer instructor works co-operatively with all staff in a collegial fashion to achieve the Organisation’s mission in a manner consistent with the Organisation’s values. • Excellent communication both verbal and written skills in English • An enthusiastic approach to all tasks and activities • A desire to help seniors understand the benefits of being computer literate. • Proven ability to manage and operate computers, the Internet and computer hardware and software. • Must be able to impart information to others in a workshop setting • Must have above average communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage situations where seniors, often marginalized, are requesting assistance. • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. • A desire to learn from others and willingness to work in a team environment and an understanding of priorities and competing timelines. • Ability to work independently and have the ability to motivate others. • Intermediate/Advanced level of Microsoft office, Photoshop and basic HTLM/web design. Experience with word press is an asset.
