Community Connectors (United Way Avenues of Change)

Position description: 

Community Connectors are passionate Coquitlam River residents who play an important role in supporting Coquitlam River families with young children aged 0-6 by bridging them to neighbourhood drop-in programs.

Deliverables/Duties: 

• Complete Westcoast Family Centres/UWAOC Volunteer Orientation and Community Connector training (approximately 6 hours total)
• Work in partners/small teams (alongside fellow volunteer or staff) and reach out to families with young children in community spaces/events
• Assist with set-up of informational table and child-friendly activityif applicable
• Hand out promotional and informational flyers/brochures
• Engage in conversation to learn if family is accessing services in the neighbourhood
• Share information about neighbourhood drop-in programs and/or events with families, and encourage their participation
• Deliver short group presentations to relevant groups (optional)
• Make additional 1:1 contacts with parents with young children in daily interactions (eg. school, playgrounds, grocery store)

Qualifications: 

Coquitlam River neighbourhood resident
Outgoing and enjoy meeting people
Passionate about sharing information and knowledge with others
Interested in learning about community resources available to families with young children
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Comfortable reaching out to families and engaging in conversation
