Position description: 

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking Philanthrophy Volunteer for the Fund Development, Philanthropy department. Reporting to the Coordinator this position will assist the Philanthropy team in raising funds for the Canadian Red Cross by conducting donor relations, event planning, prospect research and project planning.

  • Supports the planning, organization and follow-up of Canadian Red Cross fundraising events
  • Conducts research on individual, corporate and family foundation prospects and donors
  • Summarizes research findings to create briefing packages for donor meetings
  • Updates Raiser’s Edge database with donor notes as well as proper receipting
  • Assists in the coordination of mailings and other stewardship activities for Major Gift donors
  • Assists in updates to marketing materials for philanthropy department use
  • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record check
  • Experience working with a non-profit an asset
  • Professional, confident, positive and self-motivated
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred but not necessary
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Working Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite ( InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional) an asset
  • Working Knowledge of Social Media also an asset
  • Willingness to learn about fundraising strategies
  • Ability to:
  1. research prospective donors and analyze information
  2. manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines
  3. compose correspondence, reports, presentations and other written materials
  4. successfully work both in a team environment as well as individually
  5. stay organized and a strong attention to detail

Addtional Information: 
  • This is an ongoing position and a minimum 6 month commitment is desired
  • Successful volunteers will receive training and support in order to be successful, maintain a safe work environment and provide excellent service to help those in need of this vital service
  • Must be available Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm for a 4 – 6 hour volunteer shift
